It’s the end of week two and so we are at our third set of measurements. I have to say given last weeks weight I was absolutely expecting to crack the 80’s but it wasn’t to be… I actually put on weight this week! I mean in all honesty the last two weigh ins have coincided some influencing factors. The first week I had some stuff on Saturday morning that I found out later causes my mate to drop around 3kg and that takes him about a week to put back on. This week I had 1.5 hours sleep after having to do an emergency pickup and drop off which included about two hours of driving and two hours afterwards of chit-chat and then another 30 minutes of driving. So both weigh ins while indicative of general forward progress aren’t good representations of the current state of things.
Todays weigh in though is why I alway say that people should have multiple ways to measure progress! Although I put on 1.5kg which is mostly water I lost fat and dropped body fat percentage. This lines up with my observation of increased leanness and feeling better. When I saw the weight I was wondering what the hell was going on, but the calipers tell the true story.
So I still maintain I will get into the 80’s, it might not be next week but it will I think be done by the end of the four week period.
Measurements :
Weight : 92.3kg (+1.5, -6.2kg)
Waist : 86.0cm (-1.0cm, -7.5cm)
Hips : 101.0cm (0.0cm, -4.0cm)
Chest : 100.0cm (0.0cm, -4.0cm)
Thighs : 61.0cm (-0.5cm, -3.0cm)
Calves : 41.0cm (0.0cm, -1.5cm)

So it’s been one week of the diet and my measurements are really, really surprising. Surprisingly good!
I thought maybe I’d be around the 92-93kg mark at best but it seems I had way more water weight on me than I thought. Obviously some is fat, some is water but an 8kg drop is definitely mostly water.
I’m well on my way to my target (under 90kg and 10% BF) so without futher a do.
Measurements:
Weight : 90.8kg (-7.7kg)
Waist : 87.0cm (-6.5cm)
Hips : 101.0cm (-4.0cm)
Chest : 100.0cm (-4.0cm)
Thighs : 61.5cm (-2.5cm)
Calves : 41.0cm (-1.5cm)
Shoulders : 122.0cm (no loss)
BF% : 11.3% (-1.6%)
So yeah, good loss overall and I should easily get under 90kg by the end maybe even closer to 85kg.

I’m pretty disappointed with myself but it’s part of the reason I’m doing this again. There was a good four month period of good eating and more importantly a healthy head but that all seems to have been tipped completely arse up lately. The last three weeks have seen me slip deeper and deeper in to the bulimic lifestyle I had before and that needs to stop. I expect to still lose a bit of water weight this week as my carb intake was up last week.
Measurements
Weight : 98.8kg
BF % : 12.9%
Waist : 93.5cm
Hips : 105cm
Thighs : 64cm
Chest : 104cm
Arms : 34.5cm

These are from last Monday, I just forgot to post them. I’m actually the lightest I’ve ever been and it feels good. I reckon 3-4kg would put me at a level of leanness I’d be happy with. That’s why I’m going to do another V-Diet run, some weight loss and some habit re-adjustments.
Measurements :
Weight : 92.6kg
BF % : 10.4%
Waist : 86.5cm
Hips : 100.0cm
Thighs : 62.0cm
Arms : 33.0cm
I’ll be changing my measuring day to Sunday morning from now on as it’ll be the day I have my solid meal and generally the day when I will end up having a few carbs when not on the V-Diet. I tend to have a decent breakfast after running on Sunday and then have some healthy carbs in the afternoon.
So V-Diet here we come!!

It’s been a wonky couple of weeks lately, I’ll freely admit I fell off the rails a little bit this last week, over the weekend to be specific. Very bad old habits crept back into my eating and I’m tempted to do a week of the V-Diet again after my friends’ wedding this weekend. A bit of a weight loss thing but also just to nail away any bad habits that were creeping back.
It’s funny after three months of such strictness how a little crack can turn into a bit of a crevice. I’ve given myself this week to knuckle down though and I’ll see the results of that and make a decision on the V-Diet thing.
Even though things were a bit out of whack I did manage to lose a bit around the waist and increase muscle mass and decrease fat mass according to the pinches. Hopefully by this week will see me dip into the 92.xkg mark and drop another 0.5 to 1.0cm off my waist.

I was pretty slack this week and also I had to consider that I weighed myself last week after a night out dancing like a maniac. I stayed as well hydrated as I could but it was by no means a normal weigh in situation.
On the plus side things seem to have stabilised as far as no more weight gains due to creatine or increased carbs and if anything I ended up gaining muscle mass this week with increased protein intake and workouts. Body fat tells the story.
No massive drops in size this week though an increase in weight and decrease or stagnation in size does suggest some more muscle and the calipers proved that out. It’s great when everything is lining up so you know your measurements are good.
I’m reaching my goals right now so no need to be doing anything crazy like hitting the V-Diet again. I’ll just take it slowly and reach 9% bit by bit.

I did expect a drop this week as I’d been super strict with my eating, increased protein, reduced carbs and fats slightly and the gain due to creatine and carb increases I thought would have settled by now. I’m happy this proved to be right and I had drops in the important areas and I noticed changes in the mirror.
I’ve changed my weights to more of an overall volume setup. Previously I was doing most exercises for maximum weight to failure but now I’m doing 4×10-12 for most exercises except bodyweight exercises like dips and chin ups. This seems to be paying off and my body is feeling a bit punished. My chest especially was sore for a couple of days afterwards.
Anyway I’m definitely noticing changes week to week now and although in the grind I know I can reach my goal.
I saw noticeable changes in my chest and legs, this has shown in chest measurements but not in my legs. Also my waist hasn’t reduced so I think that my measurements last week were a bit of cheating for ego’s sake. However also these measurements were taken after only a few hours sleep after a night of dancing so everything could still be a bit pumped. Next week will be a better indication.
As always the drop in BF% and the changes in the mirror are the best indications of forward progress.

This week saw very little change. I was still not expecting to make huge losses this week as the addition of carbs and creatine would have still been catching up with me. I lost a little bit of weight but that hasn’t shown up as massive measurement changes or body fat changes.
I think this week was definitely a grind week. I also can’t forget that I hurt my back this week as well as two days are going to be missing from the measurements. These two days are low calorie days with reasonable amounts of activity normally so they could make a noticeable change. Hurting my back meant I missed out on BJJ and was generally far less active for two to three days and I didn’t ride to and from work. It also meant weights weren’t as intense. In general this week wasn’t a good week to take any results from. It’s a bit annoying as I was wanting this week to be a real demonstration of what the additional 250 calories a day was doing.
I was thinking though that my body has been running virtually on fumes for the last six to eight weeks. I’ve been eating very strictly, very cleanly and at below maintenance calories (a lot below!) for that entire time. I think it’s time to give the body a shock and show it a couple of days of reasonable calories and see what happens.
A lot of guys that are very lean talk about re-feed days where they’re eating below maintenance for a few days or a week then they’ll eat quite a bit more for a day then back to below maintenance. This is generally guys that are quite lean looking to get leaner. Many that I’ve seen are in the 6% - 10% range which is a pretty special and rare place to be. I’m going to do some reading on this and see if it would suit me.
So now the measurements. Small changes everywhere and where I noticed them too. I think a bit of concentration and less laziness on the arms has started to pay off and I did notice better definition in the thighs and some more definition in the waist.

I was expecting an increase in weight this week, I had started taking creatine, had increased carbs and calories overall and had drunk like a mad man this week. I thought at best I could maintain last week’s weight but that was just a hopeful thought. This week just shows that it definitely pays to be taking body fat measurements and tape measurements along the way!!
I’ve noticed a couple of changes this week which made me quite secure in the fact that even though I might gain weight I was still losing fat. I’ve written about most of them but I’m pleased with the changes I can see in my chest, stomach, back, calves and thighs.
I was a bit slack on my exercise last week and at times the diet. It was still very strict and calorie and macro controlled but not so strict on timing and I made a lot of substitutions, plus I am drinking tea and coffee with milk now. Only a tablespoon or so here and there but I’m quite sure it adds up over time. Exercise was lacking too I think I rode one or two days, skipped BJJ once and didn’t ride on Saturday. That’s what having a big weekend will do to the rest of your week!
I’m very pleased with the continued drop in BF% and will continue with the same calories and macros this week. Obviously exercise will increase a little but hopefully no more water weight from the increased carbs and creatine.
So without further a-do here are the measurements for this week. Take notice of the pluses and minuses as it’ll be the first time there is such a mix of both. I forgot to do my chest this morning so I’ll do it tomorrow.
