Make Your Own Iced Tea

Iced tea is a drink that most people buy thinking that it’s better for them than a Coke, Fanta, Solo or whatever other soft drink there is. Sorry, you’re probably wrong. Sure tea has some goodness to it but generally you don’t drink it with multiple spoons of sugar in it.

Most bought iced teas from what I’ve seen contain 30grams or more of sugar! That’s the equivalent of six teaspoons of sugar, in the equivalent of two glasses of water. Why can’t you make your own iced tea ? It’s easy and way, way cheaper.

This is how I’ve been making mine after a bit of experimentation.

Just brew up your tea, I use a tea bag and a nutrasweet tablet per 300mL of water or so. I tend to make 600mL worth at a time. Just brew it for a few minutes and then put it into the fridge. After it’s cool I tend to bulk it out with some more water by adding another half the amount of tea in water. 600mL of tea becomes 900mL.

It tastes great and makes an awesome difference to diet drinks where you can taste the artificial sweetener. You can use the flavoured tea bags I’ve used caramel, apple and cinnamon, and ginger and lemongrass and I could see how each would appeal to different people. I’m preferring the caramel option, but will keep looking.
